Today a lady and a girl came and asked to dial a toll free number- 1800120170170 which they said is of the company- HINDUSTAN UNILEVER HTH whose product they are selling, and when I asked the reason they said it will help them achieve their target. I made a phone call to the number and after 2-3 seconds the call got cut and an eight number OTP came in message. An SMS saying “Thanks for contacting HUL” along with a verification code and a message asking for consent. The caller asked me to share that code, which I did, believing it was genuine.
Later, I realized that this number is not officially listed by HUL and this appears to be a misleading or fraudulent phone call intended to obtain consent or misuse verification codes.
No money has been deducted from my account so far, but I am reporting this to prevent misuse and for record purposes.
